Welcome to my site. I’m a freelance writer and a former exploration geologist (meaning I traveled the world exploring for new sources of gold and copper, zinc and lead, silver and titanium).

I cover travel, outdoor sports, environmentally and socially conscious business, science and the environment for magazines like Outside, Discover, Men’s Journal and Backpacker. I also write about the latest advances in gemstone science for Colored Stone. And, I’ll admit, whether rubies and emeralds are involved or not, I like to write about rocks as often as I can figure out how to fit them into my story.
